A look at the Cal Poly Mustangs
Cal Poly is off to a 8-15 start to the season, but has played a challenging non-conference slate with 11 of its 23 games on the road. The Mustangs are coming off winning one of four at home against Big 10 foe Nebraska over the weekend and has picked up wins over #22 Cal (6-4), Gonzaga (6-1) and Wichita State (5-4 & 3-0).
Poly is hitting .249 as a club with sophomore outfielder Alex McKenna leading the team with a .318 average. McKenna leads the team in hits (28), runs (16) and stolen bases (6), while sophomore catcher Nick Meyer has a team-high 14 RBIs and freshman infielder Bradlee Beesley has a team-best seven doubles. The Mustangs are averaging 3.8 runs per game and are fourth in the Big West in doubles with 39.
Cal Poly has a staff ERA of 3.81 to rank fourth in the Big West and is 15th in the nation with a 3.23 strikeout-to-walk ratio with 210 strikeouts to only 65 walks. The Mustangs are holding opponents to a .246 average and are 22nd nationally in walks allowed per nine innings (2.88) and 33rd in strikeouts per nine innings (9.3). Eight different pitchers have started at least one game and seven different pitchers have appeared in seven or more games.
The Mustangs went 32-25 in 2016 finishing in a tie for fourth place in the Big West with a 12-12 mark and were predicted to finish fourth in this year's Big West preseason poll announced on Feb. 2.

First walk-off win since May 7, 2016
The 'Dogs picked up their first walk-off win since May 7, 2016 on Sunday as the 'Dogs rallied from a 7-5 deficit to score three runs in the bottom of the ninth to win the series finale over San Diego State. The last walk-off for the 'Dogs also came over SDSU in a 1-0 triumph in 10 innings.
Stone see 33-game on-base streak come to an end
Senior outfielder Jake Stone saw his 33-game on-base streak come to an end in the second game of the 'Dogs doubleheader on Saturday as the Bulldogs were held to one baserunner in the game. Stone had reached base safely in the first 21 games of the season after finishing 2016 reaching base in the final 12 games.
Fresno State Baseball set to retire Fibber Hirayama #3 jersey on April 30
The 'Dogs will retire their ninth jersey in program history on April 30 when legendary Bulldog Fibber Hirayama will see his #3 retired in a pregame ceremony.
Batesole within ten wins of #500 at Fresno State
Head coach Mike Batesole now sits at 491 wins at Fresno State and 747 in his career. He is nine victories of his 500th at Fresno State and will become only the third coach to reach that milestone joining Pete Beiden and Bob Bennett. The earliest he can clinch win number 500 is April 11 at home vs. San Francisco.
Up next: The Bulldogs hit the road this weekend for the first part of a seven-game stretch away from Fresno traveling to New Mexico (15-9, 9-0 MW) for a Mountain West series starting Friday at 5:30 p.m. PT.
