'Dogs to face Sacramento State on the road

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's soccer team will travel north to the City of Trees to face Sacramento State on Saturday Aug. 26 at 12 p.m. PT.
The Bulldogs take a 1-1 record to Hornet Field.

Last Time – The last time the two squads met was on Sept. 13, 2014 in Sacramento, Calif., when the Bulldogs defeated the Hornets 1-0.
When playing on Hornet Field, Sacramento leads 4-3-1. Under head coach Brian Zwashka, the Bulldogs are 1-1 against Sacramento State.
Fresno State leads the all-time series against Sacramento State 11-6-1.
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Reviewing last week – The Hornets finished their first week of regular season play 1-1, with a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Saint Mary's and a 3-2 double overtime loss against Nevada.
Kylee Kim-Bustillos was named the Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week for games played Aug. 14-20. The true freshman forward combined to score three goals, including the game winner in the victory at Saint Mary's. She accounted for both Hornet goals in the loss to Nevada. She scored three of Sacramento State's four goals last week.
Midfielder Caitlin Prothe scored one goal that tied the game in the Hornet's victory over Saint Mary's, rounding out Sacramento State's scoring last week.
Sacramento State has two players that have scored goals this season and two players that have recorded assists.
The Hornets' have owned the advantage in shots over their opponents 28-23. Sacramento State has scored the same amount of goals as its opponents 4-4 in its first two games. Although, its opponents have recorded more saves 13-6 and corner kicks 9-8.
The Hornets return 12 letterwinners and five starters to their roster, adding 11 newcomers.
Last season – Sacramento State finished the 2016 season with an 8-7-4 (6-2-2 Big West) record. The Hornets finished Big West play in second place, punching their ticket to the semifinal round of the Big West Tournament for the second consecutive year. Sacramento State head coach Randy Dedini was named the 2016 Big Sky Coach of the Year. Seven Hornets earned 2016 All-Big Sky honors.

The Bulldogs have a well-balanced offense with four Bulldogs scoring goals, five recording assists and nine recording shots.
Julia Glaser, Myra Delgadillo and Kasidee Wiley combined for Fresno State's three goals against Pacific. Nicole Theroux and Marie Berwinkel-Kottmann each logged two saves to keep the Tigers scoreless in the 2017 regular season opener. Fresno State owned the advantage in corner kicks (6-4) and saves (4-0).
Senior Peyton Cline scored Fresno State's lone goal against CS Fullerton, in the Bulldogs 2017 home opener. CS Fullerton owned the advantage in shots (9-7) and corner kicks (5-3). Fresno State recorded four saves, compared to CS Fullerton's one save during the contest.
Overall, Fresno State has outscored its opponents 4-2 and recorded more saves than its opponents (8-1). The Bulldogs have attempted the same amount of corner kicks as their opponents at 9-9.
In terms of the Mountain West – Fresno State ranks within the top three in five statistical categories, including goals (4), goals per game (2.00), points (14), assists (6) and assists per game (3.00).
Freshman forward Ele Avery ranks second in the conference in assists with two. Avery is also tied for the single-game high in assists (2).
Junior goalkeeper Nicole Theroux's save percentage of 1.000 is tied for first in the conference.
Nationally speaking – Fresno State finds itself ranked within the top 50 in the nation in three statistical categories. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 23 in total assists (6), No. 26 in assists per game (3.00) and No. 47 in points (14).
Underclassmen are proving to be contributors – Five underclassmen have worked their way into the starting lineup in Tori Nicolo, Megan Amick, Julia Glaser, Sydni Lunt and Melissa Ellis.
Nicolo, Amick and Ellis made their first collegiate start as Bulldogs in Fresno State's road win against Pacific on Aug. 18.
Ele Avery made her first collegiate appearance in Fresno State's road win against Pacific on Aug. 18. The freshman subbed in both games during the first week of the 2017 regular season. Avery recorded her first collegiate assist on Aug. 18 against Pacific. Avery leads the Bulldogs in assists this season with two. The forward also recorded her first collegiate shot on Aug. 18 against Pacific
'Dogs have experience – With only two seniors last season, Fresno State returns 15 letter winners and 10 starters while the Bulldogs added six newcomers to their 2017 roster.
On the attack, Fresno State returns Myra Delgadillo, Julia Glaser, Peyton Cline and Alyssa Nishikawa. The foursome combined for 68 percent (19-28) of the teams' goals last season and 55 percent of the Bulldogs' assists (12-22). Delgadillo was named to the 2016 All-MW Second-Team. Delgadillo's team-leading nine goals and eight assists ranked second in the MW. Glaser was named to the 2016 MW Newcomer Team. Glaser recorded the second-most goals for the Bulldogs with six, the most for a Bulldog freshman since 2002. Cline was third on the team with four goals and Nishikawa added three assists.
On defense, the Bulldogs return their leading foursome in Sarah Jo Ciapponi, Anna Crawford, Alissa Pham and Olivia Muhrbeck. The 2016 defense allowed the fewest shots in Fresno State history.
In the box, Fresno State returns all three goalkeepers. Marie Berwinkel-Kottmann, Nicole Theroux and Alex Best split time in front of the net during the 2016 season.
In 2016, Fresno State tied for seventh in the MW narrowly missing the conference tournament by two points. The Bulldogs 5-5-1 conference record and seventh place finish was the best finish since the 2013.
