Fresno State Wrestling concluded the regular season on Sunday afternoon at the Save Mart Center falling 41-0 to No. 4 Oklahoma State. The 'Dogs return to action at the Big 12 Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma March 3-4.
FRESNO, Calif. - Facing seven-ranked wrestlers and a top-five nationally ranked opponent, Oklahoma State proved to be too much for Fresno State Wrestling to overcome on Sunday afternoon falling 41-0 to the fourth-ranked Cowboys in the final Big 12 dual of the season.
With a crowd of 4,328 on hand at the Save Mart Center, the 'Dogs honored 125-pound redshirt senior Sean Williams prior to the match as the Tulare native, who wrestled his first three seasons at Oklahoma before transferring to Fresno State, wrestled for the final time at home.
"Sean has been a great veteran addition in the room this year and we have seen him steadily improve as the season has gone along," said head coach Troy Steiner. "We look forward to seeing him and the rest of the team compete at the Big 12 Championships in Oklahoma in a few weeks."
Fresno State was unable to pick up any wins in the dual as the Cowboys recorded seven bonus-point wins getting three falls, a technical fall and three major decisions.
The 'Dogs looked like they may have a chance to get a win at 157 pounds as sophomore Greg Gaxiola took a 2-1 lead late in the second period over Tristan Moran, but the Cowboy was able to get a takedown and a two-point near fall in the third period to take a 5-2 lead and added a point for riding time for the 6-2 win.
With more than 4,000 fans in attendance at Sunday's dual, the 'Dogs finished the season with over 27,000 for the season as Fresno State averaged 4,566 fans for each of its six home duals. The 'Dogs had crowds of 4,000 or larger at four of the six duals and came only 46 shy in the Big 12 home opener against Utah Valley on Jan. 19 totaling 3,954.
After a two-week break from competition, the 'Dogs return to action on March 3-4 traveling to Tulsa, Oklahoma for the Big 12 Championships hosted at the BOK Center.
