2019-20 (Redshirt Junior): 2020 NCAA Championships qualifier at 149 lbs... finished fifth at the Big 12 Championship earning an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships ... tied for fourth on the team with 20 wins ... went 4-2 at the Big 12 Championship as the No. 6 seed defeating Dylan Martinez (Air Force), 4-1, No. 8 Jaron Jensen (Wyoming), 3-2, No. 7 Jaden VanMaanen (NDSU), 7-3 & earned a win by forfeit over No. 3 Max Thomsen (Northern Iowa) to finish fifth ... went 12-6 in dual action to lead the team in dual meet victories ... went 5-2 in Big 12 duals ... earned 15 wins by decision, two major decisions, two forfeits and one injury default ... finished second at the Roadrunner Open falling to AJ Raja (California Baptist) in the finals ... went 1-2 at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite ... earned ranked wins over No. 30 Gerard Angelo (Rutgers) & No. 26 Jaron Jensen (Wyoming) ... Pride of the Valley Award winner for his great work in the community & most volunteer hours.
2018-19 (Junior): Redshirted... competed in one open tournament unattached, the California Collegiate Open, posting a 3-1 record... tallied three major decisions with a 10-1 win over Taber Spray (Simon Fraser), defeated Justin Hansz (San Francisco State), 16-3 & topped Mason Boutain (SFSU), 11-3... finished in third place coming back to defeat Boutain who previously defeated him in the quarterfinals of the CCO.
2017-18 (Sophomore): Gaxiola compiled a 13-18 overall record as a sophomore... recorded the third-most dual wins on the season with eight going 8-12 in dual meets... went 2-4 in Big 12 dual meets... posted a win over a ranked opponent with a 9-5 victory over No. 16 Kyle Langenderfer of Illinois... recorded five wins by decisions, five by major decision, two by technical fall and one by fall.... recorded a fall of Raider Lofthouse (Utah Valley) in 49 seconds on Jan. 19... went 4-0 at the Bill Musick Memorial Open outscoring his opponents 47-5 and defeated Wyatt Gerl (Cerritos), 7-1 in the finals... recorded major decision dual victories downing Jett Moy (Cal Poly), 20-6 and Dane Robbins (Air Force), 15-6... went 0-2 at the Big 12 Championships falling to Zach Moore (West Virginia) and Alex Mossing (Air Force).
Prior to Fresno State: Gaxiola competed at Division II Cal Baptist in 2016-17 where he compiled an 18-7 overall record posting a 4-2 mark at 149 and 14-5 at 157 while competing unattached...Â
High School: Prepped at Buchanan High in Clovis, Calif., where he graduated in 2016... was a four-year letter winner for the Bears... qualified for the CIF State Championships four times placing twice... took fourth at 145 lbs. as a senior in 2016 and placed seventh at 132 lbs. as a junior...  also competed at 126 lbs. as a sophomore and 113 lbs. as a freshman... holds Buchanan HS program record for most career takedown and helped lead the Bears to the 2016 state championship as a team... finished sixth at NHSCA High School Nationals.
Personal: Born in Fresno and raised in Clovis, Calif... parents are Greg and Inez Gaxiola... has five siblings, Jalisa, Eleric, Janelle, Nisaye and Chris... kinesiology major at Fresno State... plans on becoming a physical therapist after graduation.. enjoys swimming and fishing in his free time.
