The Diamond 'Dogs saw their first tie since 1998 on Sunday and remain in first place in the Mountain West after their weekend series against New Mexico.
Fresno State (26-13-1, 12-7-1 MW), who remains in first place in the Mountain West, tallied 11 hits in the contest. Leading the way on Sunday was freshman center fielder Jeff Jamison with a season-high three, including his first career triple and added an RBI run scored.
Sophomore designated hitter Emilio Nogales also notched a multi-hit game with a pair and tallied his first triple of the season as well to go along with scoring a run.
Sophomore catcher Carter Bins extended his on-base streak to 23 games with a single in the eighth inning and knocked in two runs.
On the mound, sophomore southpaw Nikoh Mitchell made his 10th start of the season going 3.2 innings allowing five hits, two runs, one earned, three walks and struck out three.
He gave way to sophomore right-hander Jamison Hill and three more pitchers followed as the tie negated any hurler receiving a win or a loss.
How It Happened
The Lobos got the scoring started in the top of the first with a two-out single to center field by Jared Mang as third baseman Justin Watari was able to get in to prime position to score after a Bulldog throwing error allowed him to get to third base.
New Mexico tacked on a run in the top of the second on an RBI single to left-center by Watari for a 2-0 lead, but the 'Dogs quickly cut the Lobos' lead in half in the bottom of the frame on a Miles Tomczak single to first base that drove in Nogales after his leadoff triple.
The 'Dogs took a 4-2 lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth getting a leadoff infield single by EJ Andrews, Jr. and a walk by Zach Presno. Senior right fielder Auston Chastain followed with his sixth sacrifice bunt of the season moving the two 'Dogs into scoring position as Andrews, Jr. came home a wild pitch to tie the game at 2-2.
Jamison followed with his first career triple smoking a ball to right-center to drive home Presno and Bins gave the 'Dogs a two-run cushion with a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in Jamison.
The Lobos cut the 'Dogs lead in half with a run in the top of the fifth on a single back up the middle by shortstop Hayden Schilling, but the 'Dogs answered back with a two-run RBI single through the ride side by redshirt senior third baseman McCarthy Tatum in the bottom of the sixth for his 52nd and 53rd RBIs of the season.
The Lobos refused to go away easily getting one run back in the top of the seventh on a two-out single back up the middle by Brayden Merrit and tied the game with a pair of runs in the eighth scoring one run on a triple to center field by Watari and tied the game with a single to left field by designated hitter Jeff Deimling.
Fresno State threatened to break the tie in both the eighth and ninth innings, but were unable to do so as the game ended in a tie. The 'Dogs put runners at the corners with one out in the eighth and got a leadoff double by senior second baseman Nolan Dempsey in the ninth, but a double play ended the threat.
