How It Happened

The next three Mustangs all reached base getting a run on an RBI double down the left field line by center fielder Bradlee Beesley followed by a single to right-center by first baseman Tate Samuelson bringing home Beesley for a 3-0 lead.
The Mustangs moved their lead to 4-0 after two innings with a sacrifice fly to right field by right fielder Elijah Greene, but the 'Dogs came through with a well-timed explosive inning bringing across a single-inning season-high 10 runs.
Dempsey got the scoring started with an infield single to third base driving in catcher Carter Bins who led off reaching base with a hit by pitch. Nogales followed with his second double in as many at-bats with a smack to center field driving in Dempsey and JT Arruda to cut the Mustangs' lead to 4-3. Nogales came around to tie the game on a pair of wild pitches.
The Bulldogs took a 5-4 lead on a two-out bases-loaded hit by pitch to Bins and increased their lead to 6-4 with a walk to Arruda. Tatum followed with a two-run RBI single to right field driving in center fielder Zach Ashford and Bins. Dempsey completed the 'Dogs huge inning from the plate with a double down the left field line bringing around Arruda and Tatum.
With Hill exiting the game after three innings, the Mustangs were able to load the bases with no outs in the bottom of the fourth, but were only able to get one run on a fielder's choice by Gurnik.
Fresno State increased its lead to 12-5 in the top of the fifth scoring one run on a double down the left field line by Tatum and Dempsey kept it going with a single back up the middle to score Tatum.
The 'Dogs tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Bins and and an RBI single to shortstop by Arruda for a 14-5 lead.
Scoring its last run of the game in the bottom of the sixth, Cal Poly made it 14-6 on a bases-loaded RBI groundout, but the 'Dogs were able to escape the jam with a strikeout and flyout to third.
