FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State wrestling team opens up the 2021 season on Sunday at the Cal Poly Tri-Meet in San Luis Obispo.

Bulldog Headlines

Fresno State Wrestling gets its 49th season as a program underway on Sunday.
The Bulldogs return 2020 NCAA Championship qualifier DJ Lloren at 141 pounds who is ranked in four preseason polls.
The 'Dogs finished ninth at the 2020 Big 12 Championship and finished the dual season with a 9-11 overall mark.
Fresno State tied for sixth in the Big 12 with a 4-4 record in Big 12 duals.

'Dogs in the national rankings
Three Bulldogs have appeared in the preseason national rankings as redshirt senior DJ Lloren leads the way checking in four polls at 141 pounds. The Clovis native's highest ranking comes at No. 13 by The Open Mat followed by No. 14 by FloWrestling, No. 15 by InterMat and rounded out at No. 16 by Trackwrestling.

The other two 'Dogs to appear in the rankings are redshirt sophomore Hunter Cruz who is ranked No. 31 at 184 pounds by The Open Mat and redshirt junior Isaiah Perez is No. 33 by Trackwrestling.

A look at the Mustangs
Cal Poly is coming off a 3-9 record in 2019-20 and a fifth-place finish at the 2020 Pac-12 Championships. The Mustangs return one NCAA qualifier from a year ago in redshirt sophomore Bernie Traux who qualified at 165 pounds, but has moved up to 174 lbs. this season.

A look at the Wolverines
Utah Valley went 3-11 in duals a season ago placing 11th in the Big 12 Championship and feature a pair of ranked wrestlers in redshirt senior Demetrius Romero at 174 pounds and sophomore Cameron Hunsaker at 149 pounds.

Romero, who medically redshirted a season ago, enters his sixth season of college and is a two-time NCAA Championships qualifier at 165 pounds after spending his first two seasons at Boise State before the program was shut down after the 2016-17 season.
