SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Diamond 'Dogs suffered their first loss of the season on Tuesday evening at Cal Poly falling 8-4 to the Mustangs at Baggett Stadium.

Held to nine hits on the night, Josh Lauck launched his second home run of the season while fellow senior Mason Grotto, coming off a four-hit performance on Sunday, added a single and double. Zach Morgan reached base three times and drove in a run.

On the mound, junior right-hander Trevor Garcia made his first start as a Bulldog tossing two innings before giving way to six more hurlers with Kyle Pruhsmeier and Roman Angelo each tossing two innings apiece.

How It Happened
The Mustangs got the scoring started in the bottom of the second with a leadoff single by Matthias Haas who came around to score on a wild pitch.

The 'Dogs answered back in the third inning with a solo home run by Lauck to left field to tie the game at one.

Cal Poly responded with a pair of runs on RBI base knocks in the bottom of the frame and extended their lead to 5-1 on a two-run home run by Haas in the fifth.

The Bulldogs cut the Mustangs' lead to 5-2 on a sacrifice fly by Travis Welker in the sixth, but Cal Poly answered right back with a bases-loaded double to left-center by highly-touted Brooks Lee to extend their advantage to 8-2.

Continuing to fight to the final out, the 'Dogs added two more runs in the ninth scoring on an RBI double by Morgan and a sacrifice fly by Ivan Luna to make the final score 8-4 in favor of the Mustangs.

The 'Dogs saw their six-game winning streak against Cal Poly come to an end.
The Bulldogs have now dropped their last six road openers.
Freshman outfielder Bobby Blandford made his starting debut.
Pruhsmeier suffered only his third loss in his 37th career appearance.
