| Fresno State men's golfer Chad Spencer was named gobulldogs.com's Athlete of the Week. He becomes the school's first golfer to win the award. Spencer (Rocklin, Calif.) claimed his first collegiate victory last weekend at the 14-team, 70-player St. Croix Collegiate Classic in the Virgin Islands. With a par set at 72, Spencer shot 71 Friday, 68 Saturday and 75 Sunday, but managed to tie Xavier's Miles Maillet at 214, sending both into a playoff for the individual championship title. Spencer walked away victorious after outdriving Maillet by 70 yards on the second hole and hitting a wedge before sinking a 10-foot putt after Maillet bogeyed. He is now ranked eighth in total short game with .688. Fresno State had a one-stroke victory over Indiana to claim the title with 878 after shooting a 289 Sunday, the tournament's only round below 290. | ||
