Bulldogs travel to Reno Tournament of Champions Sunday

The Bulldog wrestling team travels to the Reno Tournament of Champions on Sunday in an individual tournament featuring three top 20 teams.
FRESNO, Calif. - After a pair of duals last weekend, the Bulldog wrestling team travels to the Reno Tournament of Champions at the Reno Events Center on Sunday.
"This will be another great test for our guys against some high-level competition in a great wrestling environment," said head coach Troy Steiner.

FloWrestling Ranked Individuals
Individuals from six different programs ranked this week by FloWrestling will be in Reno as Missouri and North Carolina State both have a tournament-high six individuals ranked followed by Stanford (5), Wyoming (4), North Dakota State (2) and Oregon State (1).
Six individuals are ranked in the top five in their respective weight classes as 141 pounds headlines the tournament as No. 2 Kevin Jack (NC State), No. 4 Bryce Meredith (Wyoming) and No. 5 Jaydin Eierman (Missouri) are all expected to wrestle. Missouri has a pair of No. 2-ranked wrestlers in Joey Lavallee (157 lbs.) & Willie Miklus (197 lbs.) and NC State's No. 3 Pete Renda (184 lbs.) round out the individuals ranked in the top five. The 157-pound weight class features a tournament-high five ranked wrestlers followed by 197 with four.
'Dogs coming off pair of duals
Fresno State is coming off a pair of duals last weekend falling at home to CSU Bakersfield, 30-7 on Friday and at No. 10 Minnesota, 38-7 on Sunday.
The 'Dogs got a pair of wins in each dual by Khristian Olivas at 149 pounds and AJ Nevills at heavyweight. Olivas won each of his duals by a major decision as he topped Kalani Tonge of CSUB on Friday 11-1 and kept his strong weekend going on Sunday with a 14-2 rout of Minnesota's Hunter Marko.
Nevills only allowed his opponents to score a pair of points defeating Mark Penyacsek (CSUB) on Friday, 7-1 and topped Rylee Streifel of Minnesota, 5-1 on Sunday.
Olivas ranked No. 20 by Intermat
Olivas moved into the Intermat Wrestling national rankings for the first time this season at No. 20 on Tuesday. The149-pound redshirt sophomore, who transferred from Utah Valley, is 9-1 on the season with a pair of pins, a technical fall and four major decisions.
Battle on the Midway
On Nov. 21, Fresno State competed in its first-ever dual as members of the Big 12 Conference falling 24-12 to Air Force in the inaugural Battle on the Midway. Aboard the USS Midway, the 'Dogs dropped a pair of hard-fought one-point matches at 125 and 133 pounds, only to rebound at 149 and 157 pounds as Olivas and Greg Gaxiola won by technical fall and major decision, respectively, to close the dual score to 12-9 before Air Force went on to win the next four weight classes each by decisions.
Fresno State Wrestling returns to the Valley
On Nov. 17, in front of 6,840 Red Wave supporters, the third-largest dual in program history, Fresno State Wrestling returned to the Valley as the 'Dogs battled Big 10 foe Illinois at the Save Mart Center.
The 'Dogs, who fell in the dual 33-10, came out with three dual wins as Olivas got Fresno State on the board with a 10-2 major decision at 149 pounds over nationally-ranked Eric Barone while Gaxiola followed it up with a 9-5 win at 157 pounds over another nationally-ranked foe in Eric Langenderfer.
The final win for the Bulldogs came at heavyweight as Nevills topped Duece Rachal, 7-5 with a late takedown in the third period.
