2019-20 (Redshirt Sophomore): Joint went 10-12 overall on the season ... recorded a 10-10 mark at 133 pounds and went 0-2 at 141 pounds ... posted a 6-11 dual meet record ... earned two wins by decision, four major decisions, three technical falls and one fall ... won the 133-pound weight class at the Roadrunner Open going 4-0 and secured a fall over Trent Svingala (Columbia) in 2:48 ... earned dual wins over Cole Wyman (Army), Trae Vasquez (Cal Poly), Harrison Campbell (Duke), Shannon Hanna II (Old Dominion), Jared Van Fleet (Air Force) & No. 26 Chance Rich (CSUB).
2018-19 (Redshirt Freshman): Joint qualified for the 2019 NCAA Championships... went 1-2 in the NCAA Tournament with a win over No. 20 seed Brandon Paetzell (Lehigh), 7-4 while falling to No. 4 seed Mickey Phillipi (Pittsburgh) and No. 14 seed Korbin Myers (Virginia Tech)... placed fifth at the 2019 Big 12 Championship with a 3-2 mark defeating Jack Skudlarczyk (Northern Iowa), 8-0 in the fifth place match... his only two losses at the Big 12 Championship came against top-seed & All-American Daton Fix (Oklahoma State) and No. 2 seed Austin Gomez (Iowa State)... recorded 18 wins to rank sixth on the team... posted a 10-7 mark in dual meets... went 4-4 in Big 12 dual meet action... tallied nine wins by decision, four major decisions, three technical falls and two falls... went 2-11 in 13 matches against 10 NCAA Championship qualifiers with a win over Paetzell and Cam Sykora (North Dakota State)... lost to eventual All-Americans Fix, Gomez and Ethan Lizak (Minnesota)... went 4-2 at the Midlands Championships.
2017-18 (Freshman): Redshirted... went 10-4 in open meets competing unattached at four different tournaments wrestling at 133 lbs... tallied three falls, three technical falls, two major decisions and two medical forfeits... finished first at the Bill Musick Memorial Open with a fall of Josh Brown (Cerritos) in 2:18 and a 11-0 major decision win over Isiah Perez (FCC)... placed fourth at 133 lbs at the Roadrunner Open in Bakersfield going 3-2 with a fall of Noah Blakley-Beans and two medical forfeits... went 2-2 at the Reno Tournament of Champions with two technical fall wins defeating Kale Evenson (Southern Oregon), 16-0 and teammate Trevor Williams, 15-0... finished first at the California Collegiate Open going 3-0 beating Wyatt Cornelison (Unattached-Cal Poly), 15-1 in the finals.
High School: Joint was a two-time Kansas State Finalist... won the 132 lbs. weight class at the 2017 CIF State Tournament with a 3-0 win in the finals... finished third at the 2016 CIF State Tournament at 126 lbs. ... was named a Junior National Freestyle All-American... finished his prep career with a record of 180-16 (.918)... competed at Lemoore High School under former Fresno State All-American Marcio Botelho.
Personal: Son of Melissa and Kevin Joint... has one brother, Wayne... is a nutrition major at Fresno State.
Coach Steiner's comments: "What really impressed us about Gary was his focus when he is under the lights. I think the bigger the stage the better he performs. He is strong in all positions and will be a real threat on top."
