Fast start too much for Bulldogs to overcome at No. 10 Wyoming

Khristian Olivas and AJ Nevills notch wins in the Bulldogs' 40-6 loss at No. 10 Wyoming on Saturday.
LARAMIE, Wyo. - Completing a two-match Big 12 road trip on Saturday evening at No. 10 Wyoming, the Bulldog wrestling team fell 40-6 at the Arena-Auditorium on the campus of the University of Wyoming.
After picking up its first Big 12 dual meet win in program history on Friday evening at Northern Colorado, Fresno State was only able to win two matches on Saturday as the tough Cowboy team notched seven bonus-point victories on their way to victory.
Redshirt sophomore Khristian Olivas, ranked No. 22 in the NCAA Coaches Panel, recorded his 23rd win of the season while moving to 15-1 in dual meets with a hard-fought win over Wyoming's Sam Turner.Â
Olivas was able to jump out to a 4-3 lead after two periods before adding an escape and takedown to build a 7-3 lead. Turner countered with an escape and takedown of his own to make it a 7-6 match, but an escape by Olivas and a point for riding time gave him a 9-6 win.
The other Bulldog to record a win in the dual was at heavyweight as freshman AJ Nevills stayed perfect on the season in duals improving to 16-0 as he squeaked out a narrow 3-2 win over Sam Eagan. Ranked No. 28 in the Coaches Panel, Nevills battled back from being down 1-0 after two periods to record a quick escape in the third to even the match before a takedown 20 seconds later proved to be the clincher as the Clovis native held on for the one-point win.
The Bulldogs return home next weekend for a dual against Pac-12 foe No. 25 Stanford (5-4) on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Save Mart Center. The dual will be apart of a doubleheader with Fresno State women's basketball who takes on Wyoming earlier that afternoon at 2 p.m.
