Wright places fifth at Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite
Redshirt sophomore 157-pounder Jacob Wright placed fifth in Las Vegas last weekend going 5-2 in the tournament picking up four decisions and one major decision to become the first Bulldog to place at the prestigious tournament since heavyweight Clint Walbeck took seventh in 2004.
Three other 'Dogs made it to day two, but Ricky Padilla (165 lbs.), Jackson Hemauer (174 lbs.) & Randy Gonzalez (Hwt.) all fell in their first matches of the day.
'Dogs at the Reno Tournament of Champions
A trio of Bulldogs finished in the top six at their respective weights a year ago at the Reno Tournament of Champions as Dominic Kincaid took fifth at 174 lbs. while Josh Hokit placed sixth at 197 pounds and Jacob Wright took third while competing unattached at 157 lbs.
Hokit makes return to the mat
Senior Josh Hokit will make his return to the mat this weekend in Reno after finishing up his Bulldog gridiron career on Nov. 30 at San Jose State.
An All-American at 197 pounds in 2019, Hokit will make the move to heavyweight this season as he enters his final season on the mat as a Bulldog with a 36-16 overall record compiling 24 decisions, four major decisions, one technical fall along with six falls and one medical forfeit.
Hokit finished his football career playing in 51 career games while rushing for 1,260 yards on 303 carries and scored 17 rushing touchdowns. He added 38 receptions for 260 yards and one touchdown.
Bulldogs defeat Northern Colorado in Big 12 opener
The 'Dogs won six of 10 matches on Nov. 30 to defeat Northern Colorado, 25-15 in its Big 12 opener at the Save Mart Center.
Fresno State (1-4, 1-0 B12) got four bonus point wins in the dual as Hemauer recorded a fall, redshirt sophomore 125-pounder Jeremy Trinh received a forfeit, redshirt senior 165-pounder Ricky Padilla and Wright each tallied major decisions.
The 'Dogs got back-to-back wins by Lloren at 141 pounds and Gaxiola at 149 pounds as the pair each won by decision.
Five champs at the Roadrunner Open
Five Bulldog wrestlers captured titles at the Roadrunner Open hosted by CSU Bakersfield on Nov. 24.
Gary Joint (133 lbs.), Lloren (141 lbs.), Wright (157 lbs.), Hemauer (174 lbs.) & AJ Nevills (Hwt.-Unattached) all earned first place in their respective weight classes.
Gaxiola (149 lbs.), redshirt freshman 165-pounder Adam Kemp, redshirt freshman Hunter Cruz at 184 pounds and freshman Ryan Reyes at 197 pounds were each runner-ups.
Home Opener vs. Rutgers
Fresno State got a major decision from Gaxiola at 149 pounds and decisions from Lloren at 141 pounds, Kemp at 165 pounds and Hemauer at 174 pounds against Rutgers on Nov. 15 in the 'Dogs home opener that saw the 'Dogs fall 23-13 to the Scarlet Knights.
Wright earns Big 12 Co-Wrestler of the Week
For the second time in program history, Fresno State Wrestling had a Big 12 Wrestler of the Week after Wright was named the Big 12 Co-Wrestler of the Week on Nov. 5 after going 3-0 at the AFC Duals/Battle on the Midway.
'Dogs at AFC Duals/Battle on the Midway
The Bulldogs opened up the 2019-20 season on Friday, Nov. 1 at the AFC Duals and the Battle on the Midway in San Diego falling 31-8 to No. 4 Wisconsin, 25-9 to Navy and 29-9 to No. 23 Army.
Wright went a perfect 3-0 on the day with three decisions while Hemauer and Gaxiola earned two wins apiece.

The 'Dogs open the New Year in 2020 hosting Cal Poly and Big 12 foe Utah Valley on Thursday, Jan. 2 at the Save Mart Center.

Pledges for pins is designed to help support the Fresno State Wrestling Program. Proceeds will benefit the Fresno State Wrestling Fund for Excellence along with a portion contributing to the Valley Regional Training Center -- a nonprofit organization that supports Fresno State Wrestling.
It works like this, for example, if you pledge $5 per pin and the team accumulates 40 pins during the season, your pledge will be $200. Throughout the season, pins and pledges will be recorded and a letter will be mailed with your pledge amount and payment information.
