'Dogs travel to CSU Bakersfield for Feud on the Field & Cal Poly Saturday

The Bulldogs travel to CSU Bakersfield for Feud on the Field on Saturday at 1 p.m. on the CSUB Main Soccer Field and close out the day at Cal Poly for a 7 p.m. dual in San Luis Obispo.
FRESNO, Calif. - Currently on a four-match winning streak, the Fresno State Wrestling team looks to keep its winning ways going hitting the road for a pair of duals on Saturday against two Pac-12 opponents.

Scouting CSU Bakersfield
The Roadrunners enter Saturday afternoon's Feud on the Field with a 5-8 overall record and a 2-1 mark in the Pac-12 with three victories over Division I opponents picking up wins over Kent State (17-16), Cal Poly (24-11) and then-No. 22 Stanford (20-13).
CSUB features three ranked wrestlers in redshirt senior 133-pounder Sean Nickell, redshirt junior 149-pounder Russell Rohlfing and redshirt sophomore 184-pounder Dominic Ducharme. All three individuals were in the first NCAA Coaches rankings released on Jan. 24 with Rohlfing coming in the highest at No. 17 followed by Nickell at No. 23 and Ducharme at No. 31. Nickell is a two-time NCAA Championships qualifer and won the 2017 Pac-12 Championship at 125 pounds while Rohlfing qualified for the NCAA Championships a year ago at 141 pounds.
This will be the 'Dogs first trip to Bakersfield since Jan. 17, 2006 after the team's met in Fresno a season ago winning a pair of matches getting a major decision by Olivas at 149 pounds and a decision by Nevills at heavyweight.
Scouting Cal Poly
The Mustangs currently sit at 0-5 overall with a 0-2 mark in the Pac-12 with losses to CSU Bakersfield and Oregon State. Junior 197-pounder Tom Lane, a 2018 NCAA Championship qualifier, comes in ranked No. 24 in the NCAA Coaches rankings and a 16-8 overall record winning eight of his last nine matches.
Visiting Cal Poly for the first time since Feb. 13, 2005, the 'Dogs defeated Cal Poly 29-13 at home a year ago getting seven wins, including four bonus point wins.
Feud on the Field
For the first time ever, CSU Bakersfield will host an outdoor wrestling meet as it follows a trend of other Division I programs holding similar events outdoors, most notably Iowa and Oklahoma State holding the Grapple on the Gridiron inside the Hawkeyes' Kinnick Stadium in 2015 that set an NCAA dual match attendance record of 42,287.
Fresno State enters Top 25 in pair of national polls
The Bulldogs find themselves in the Top 25 in two national polls this week entering WIN Magazine's Top 25 dual meet rankings at No. 24 and are also in the The Open Mat's Top 25 dual meet rankings at No. 25.
The 'Dogs are also on the brink of entering another national ranking as they are receiving the most votes among "others receiving votes" in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Top 25.
Four 'Dogs in the national rankings
Four Bulldogs continue to find themselves in the national rankings as each were also in the first NCAA Coaches Panel rankings released on Jan. 24 that rank the top 33 wrestlers at each weight and will help determine who makes up the 2019 NCAA Championship field at each weight.
Redshirt junior 149-pounder Khristian Olivas is as high as No. 12 by Trackwrestling and is No. 17 byInterMat, No. 18 by FloWrestling and No. 19 in the NCAA Coaches Panel rankings.
Jackson Hemauer checks in 25th in both the NCAA rankings at 184 pounds while moving into the FloWrestling rankings at No. 19 and is No. 23 by Trackwrestling. while Josh Hokit is 13th by the NCAA, FloWrestling & InterMat and 14th by Trackwrestling at 197 pounds.
Finally, AJ Nevills continues to be ranked at heavyweight checking in No. 20 by the NCAA and has moved up to No. 19 by Trackwrestling.
'Dogs pick up second win over ranked foe topping No. 11 Wyoming
Winning their fourth straight dual last Sunday over then-No. 11 Wyoming, the Bulldogs won six of 10 matches against the Cowboys getting five wins by decision and a fall from Jacob Wright at 157 pounds.
It was the 'Dogs second win over a top 25 ranked opponent this season after also knocking off then-No. 23 Utah Valley, 26-10 on Jan. 18 in Orem.
'Dogs avenge another loss from 2017-18
Three of the 'Dogs eight dual meet wins this season have come over opponents they suffered losses to last season after defeating Oregon State, 27-13 last Thursday at home in addition to their wins over Utah Valley and Wyoming. The Bulldogs can make it four opponents with a win over the Roadrunners in the Feud on the Field.
Current winning streaks
In addition to the 'Dogs current four-match winning streak, a number of individuals are also riding winning streaks.
Olivas brings a four-match winning streak into Saturday while Wright and Josh Hokit look to extend their five and seven match winning streaks, respectively over the weekend.
Pledge for Pins (Current count: 34)
Pledges for pins is designed to help support the Fresno State Wrestling Program. Proceeds will benefit the Fresno State Wrestling Fund for Excellence along with a portion contributing to the Valley Regional Training Center -- a nonprofit organization that supports Fresno State Wrestling.
It works like this, for example, if you pledge $5 per pin and the team accumulates 40 pins during the season, your pledge will be $200. Throughout the season, pins and pledges will be recorded and a letter will be mailed with your pledge amount and payment information.
