For a second straight season, the Fresno State wrestling team will compete at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite hosted at the Las Vegas Convention Center on Friday and Saturday.

There will not be a shortage of top-ranked wrestlers as over a 100 ranked student-athletes are expected to compete, including the 'Dogs No. 16-ranked heavyweight AJ Nevills. Every weight will have at least eight seeded wrestlers with 133 pounds featuring a tournament-high 14.

'Dogs at the 2017 Cliff Keen Invite
The Bulldogs picked up three individual wins last year at the Cliff Keen Invite with sophomore heavyweight AJ Nevills picking up wins over Dan Stibral (NDSU) and Carter Isley (Norther Iowa) in the championship round and Dominic Kincaid defeating Anthony Lambardo of Binghamption in the consolation round at 174 pounds.
Only three of the nine 'Dogs who wrestled at the tournament a year ago are expected to wrestle this weekend with Chris Deloza at 141 pounds and Nevills back at their weights from 2017 while Isaiah Hokit has dropped from 165 pounds to 157 pounds.
'Dogs in the national rankings
Nevills has moved up to No. 16 by Trackwrestling, No. 17 by FloWrestling and No. 19 by InterMat in the latest rankings available on Nov. 27.
2018 Battle on the Midway
Fresno State wrestled in the Second Annual Battle on the Midway aboard the USS Midway in San Diego on Nov. 20 falling to Stanford, 22-15 with four Bulldogs picking up wins.
Redshirt freshman Jackson Hemauer at 184 pounds and sophomore Chris Deloza at 141 pounds picked up wins by decision while heavyweight AJ Nevills recorded a major decision and 133-pounder Gary Joint scored five points for the 'Dogs with his second technical fall of the season.
The Bulldogs led 15-12 after seven matches, but the Cardinal won the final three matches of the dual, including an upset of the 'Dogs No. 14-ranked Khristian Olivas at 149 pounds, to score the final 10 points for the 22-15 win.
Bulldogs open year two at the Save Mart Center
In a dual that saw bonus points in nine of 10 matches, it came down to the final match on Nov. 16 at the Save Mart Center as the Bulldogs came up just short against No. 20 North Dakota State falling to the Bison, 21-20 in its home opener.
With Fresno State leading North Dakota State by three points entering the final match of the dual at 125 pounds, the Bison's Brett Fleetwood edged the Bulldogs' Robert Garcia IV, 12-0 to give the visitors' four team points and the one-point dual meet victory.
The 'Dogs and Bison each won five matches apiece with the Bulldogs notching four bonus point wins picking up a technical fall and three major decisions. NDSU countered with all five of its wins coming by bonus points collecting four major decisions and a technical fall.
Pledge for Pins (Current count: 17)
Pledges for pins is designed to help support the Fresno State Wrestling Program. Proceeds will benefit the Fresno State Wrestling Fund for Excellence along with a portion contributing to the Valley Regional Training Center -- a nonprofit organization that supports Fresno State Wrestling.
It works like this, for example, if you pledge $5 per pin and the team accumulates 40 pins during the season, your pledge will be $200. Throughout the season, pins and pledges will be recorded and a letter will be mailed with your pledge amount and payment information.
