Grant Doverspike Named GoBulldogs.com Athlete of the Week

Fresno State men's golf star Grant Doverspike has been named Gobulldogs.com Player of the Week. Doverspike, a sophomore from Bakersfield, Calif. (Stockdale HS), was named Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year at conclusion of the WAC Championships. Doverspike finished in second place during the conference championships carding a 2-over 212. Doverspike's performance helped the Bulldogs finish in second place, just one stroke behind the winners, New Mexico State. The tournament finish was his third top-five appearance of this season and the third top-five finish at the WAC Championships in his career. Doverspike led the field in par four scoring with a stroke average of 3.90 and he also compiled a tournament high of 16 birdies. He is the first Bulldog since Nick Watney in 2003 to receive Player of the Year honor by the WAC. Doverspike earned First Team All-WAC honors for the third consecutive year. This year, Doverspike leads the team with a 71.82 stroke average, in first and last round scoring and par four and par five scoring. He compiled a total of 4 eagles and 109 birdies on the season.
