Greg Smith, a freshman center from Fresno, Calif. (Westwin Acdaemy/Edison High), recorded 17 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks for a double-double in his collegiate debut to lead the Bulldogs to a 65-59 season opening win over San Francisco State on Nov. 13, 2009. He connected on all six field goal attempts, grabbed a team-high four offensive rebounds and notched one steal. His 17 points were the most by a Bulldog freshman in a season opener this decade and his five blocks in a single game were more than any Bulldog in any game during the 2008-09 season. His powerful and physical presence pounded the boards on both ends of the floor for 29 minutes during the contest and slammed down a one-handed dunk with under two minutes to play that sealed the Bulldog victory.
