The Fresno State Wrestling team wraps up the regular season at home on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. with one final Big 12 dual against No. 4 Oklahoma State at the Save Mart Center for Senior Day.
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State Wrestling team wraps up the regular season at home on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. with one final Big 12 dual against No. 4 Oklahoma State at the Save Mart Center for Senior Day.
"We are excited about getting back in front of the Red Wave one final time this season," said head coach Troy Steiner. "It has been a great first year back and we appreciate the Bulldog fans support and we hope to see a large number of fans on Sunday against a great opponent in Oklahoma State."

The Cowboys enter Sunday afternoon's dual with the Bulldogs with a 12-2 mark in dual meets and a perfect 7-0 record in Big 12 action, tied with South Dakota State for the conference lead. Oklahoma State, who has won four straight duals and is 3-1 on the road, wrestled a pair of duals at home last weekend defeating Edinboro, 34-6, and Bedlam rival Oklahoma, 31-6.
The Cowboys lineup is stacked with several high-level All-American talent as nine of Oklahoma State's 10 wrestlers appear in the latest NCAA Coaches Panel rankings, including six in the top 11 at their respective weights. Leading the way for the Cowboys is two-time NCAA Champion and three-time All-American Dean Heil who comes in ranked No. 6 at 141 pounds with a 20-4 record. Other top ranked wrestlers for OSU include a pair of redshirt sophomores at 125 and 133 pounds, respectively as Nick Piccininni and Kaid Brock are both returning All-Americans.
Other returning All-Americans for the Cowboys include Chandler Rogers at 165 pounds as the Stillwater native finished fifth in 2017 and Preston Weigel at 197 pounds as the redshirt junior placed sixth at 197 pounds a year ago. With five All-Americans in the lineup, the Cowboys returned the third-most All-Americans in the country this season trailing only Penn State and Ohio State who each returned six.

Bulldogs to honor senior Sean Williams before the match
On a team full of freshman and sophomores, the Bulldogs' will this year's lone senior, 125-pounder Sean Williams prior to Sunday's match. In his one season for the 'Dogs, Williams has picked up seven wins, including a pair against Big 12 competition. A native of nearby Tulare, Williams wrestled his first thee seasons at Oklahoma before transferring to Fresno State. Fresno State Wrestling to host Alumni Gathering on Saturday night
Fresno State Wrestling will host an alumni gathering at The Downtown Club on this Saturday, Feb. 17 from 5-11 p.m. Making its return after an 11-year hiatus this winter, Fresno State Wrestling is in its 46th season as all former Bulldogs are invited to this event prior to the Bulldogs' home finale versus Oklahoma State.
Registration is $50 per person/couple and checks can be mailed to Dennis DeLiddo (559-260-8865) at 1684 West Fir Ave., Fresno 93711 made payable to the Valley Regional Training Center.
'Dogs battle Iowa State tough in Ames in Big 12 action
With nine days in between competitions, this will be the longest stretch between duals since the start of the 2018 year as the 'Dogs last wrestled last Friday at Iowa State in Big 12 competition. In a dual that came down to heavyweight, the 'Dogs AJ Nevills pushed the Cyclones' Marcus Harrington to overtime before ultimately falling in overtime.
The Bulldogs were able to win five matches in the dual, including a fall by sophomore 197-pounder Josh Hokit and got another six points after Iowa State had to forfeit at 141 pounds. Unfortunately giving up bonus points in four of the five matches the 'Dogs lost proved to be too much to overcome.
Two 'Dogs ranked in the second of four NCAA Wrestling Coaches Panel Rankings
Redshirt sophomore Khristian Olivas at 149 pounds and AJ Nevills at heavyweight continue to be ranked in the top 30 in the second NCAA Wrestling Coaches Panel released on last Thursday (Feb. 8). With two more rankings set to be released later this season, those will help to determine who will qualify for the 2018 NCAA Championships. Olivas currently checks in No. 21 at 149 lbs. and Nevills ranks No. 28 at heavyweight.
Bulldogs compete tough against pair of Pac-12 opponents
The 'Dogs competed against their third opponent from California last time out at home on Feb. 3 after previously seeing CSU Bakersfield and Cal Poly earlier this season. Despite winning four matches, the 'Dogs fell to the Cardinal, 27-15 as sophomore 197-pounder Josh Hokit notched a pin and the 'Dogs got decisions from Khristian Olivas, Isaiah Hokit and Richie Brandt.
Fresno State then turned around quickly and hit the road traveling to Oregon State for a dual two days later where they ran into a stout Beaver team as Isaiah Hokit was the only 'Dog who was able to pick up a win winning 6-3 over Rodney Williams.
'Dogs notch first Big 12 victory at Northern Colorado
In a season full of firsts, the Bulldogs picked up their first Big 12 dual victory in program history on Jan. 26 at Northern Colorado topping the Bears, 20-19 on criteria as the 'Dogs edged UNC 60-57 on total team points after the dual ended in a tie at 19-19. Five 'Dogs recorded wins in the victory, including bonus point wins from AJ Nevills at heavyweight with a fall and Khristian Olivas at 149 pounds with a major decision. Sean Williams, Dominic Kincaid and Richie Brandt each won by decision.
'Dogs defeat Cal Poly for first Division I victory
Thanks to seven individual victories, including four bonus-point wins, the 'Dogs notched their first win over a Division I opponent on Jan. 4 defeating Cal Poly, 29-13 at the Save Mart Center. Greg Gaxiola notched a 20-6 major decision at 157 pounds before Isaiah Hokit kept it going at 165 pounds with a 23-8 technical fall win. The dual wrapped up with a pair of falls from Josh Hokit and AJ Nevills at 197 pounds and heavyweight, respectively, to seal the win over the Mustangs.
Fresno State Wrestling returns to the Valley
On Nov. 17, 2017, a historic day in Bulldog Wrestling history and in front of 6,840 Red Wave supporters, the third-largest dual in program history, Fresno State Wrestling returned to the Valley as the 'Dogs battled Big 10 foe Illinois at the Save Mart Center.
The 'Dogs, who fell in the dual 33-10, came out with three dual wins as Olivas got Fresno State on the board with a 10-2 major decision at 149 pounds over nationally-ranked Eric Barone while Gaxiola followed it up with a 9-5 win at 157 pounds over another nationally-ranked foe in Eric Langenderfer.
The final win for the Bulldogs came at heavyweight as Nevills topped Duece Rachal, 7-5 with a late takedown in the third period.

After a two-week break from competition, the 'Dogs return to action on March 3-4 traveling to Tulsa, Oklahoma for the Big 12 Championships hosted at the BOK Center.
