Bulldogs trek out East to compete at the Virginia Duals (Jan. 12-13)

The Bulldogs will compete in the Virginia Duals in Hampton, Va., on Friday and Saturday.
FRESNO, Calif. - The pairings for the 2018 Virginia Duals were announced on Tuesday as the Bulldogs were placed in the York River Pool along with Lock Haven, Bucknell and Oklahoma.
"We are excited about heading to the East Coast and seeing some different programs this weekend," said head coach Troy Steiner. "It was great to get a win over Cal Poly at home last week and we look forward to keep building momentum at this tournament," added Steiner.
Fresno State, who is 2-5 in duals this season, will open competition on Friday at 6 a.m. PT against Lock Haven before taking on Bucknell at 8 a.m. PT and Big 12 foe Oklahoma at 10 a.m. PT.

• The Bald Eagles are currently 4-0 in dual meet action with a 1-0 mark in the EWL. Lock Haven defeated No. 11 Rutgers, 22-16 at home on Dec. 1 and finished 10th at the Southern Scuffle over New Year's.
• Lock Haven ranks No. 17 in the Intermat dual meet rankings while checking in No. 31 in the Trackwrestling rankings.
• Lock Haven has three ranked wrestlers in 149-pounder Ronnie Perry, 165-pounder Chance Marsteller and heavyweight Thomas Haines.
Bucknell
• Fresno State leads the all-time series, 1-0 defeating Bucknell, 25-19, on Jan. 18, 1991.
• The Bison are currently 1-5 in duals this season with a 0-2 mark in the EIWA.Â
• Bucknell has competed against a pair of top 10 teams falling to No. 1 Penn State (36-6) and No. 10 Leigh (36-2).
• Nineteen different Bison have started in dual competition this season. Of that group, only Seth Hogue (149) and Nick Stephani (174) have started every match at his respective weight class. Jacob Campbell (125), David Campbell (133), Tyler Smith (141) and Drew Phipps (184/197) have started during all but one match to date.
• The Bison have two ranked wrestlers in 141-pounder Tyler Smith and 197-pounder Tom Sleigh.
Oklahoma

'Dogs defeat Cal Poly for first Division I victory
Thanks to seven individual victories, including four bonus-point wins, the 'Dogs notched their first win over a Division I opponent last Thursday night defeating Cal Poly, 29-13. Greg Gaxiola notched a 20-6 major decision at 157 pounds before Isaiah Hokit kept it going at 165 pounds with a 23-8 technical fall win. The dual wrapped up with a pair of falls from Josh Hokit and AJ Nevills at 197 pounds and heavyweight, respectively, to seal the win over the Mustangs.
Hokit makes return to the mat
Sophomore Josh Hokit made his return to the wrestling mat against the Mustangs recording a pin in 4:14 in his first career collegiate match. A 2016 graduate of nearby Clovis High School, Hokit was a premier prep wrestler winning a individual state championship at 182 pounds as a senior. Deciding he wanted to compete in both football and wrestling at the Division I level, Hokit stayed home and walked-on to the Fresno State football team in 2016.Â
ÂAs a sophomore this fall, Hokit led the 'Dogs with seven rushing touchdowns while ranking second on the team in rushing with 583 yards on the ground and 128 carries. The Clovis native added 13 receptions for 107 yards and tossed a pair of touchdown passes.
Olivas & Nevills look to stay perfect in dual meet action
Both Khristian Olivas and AJ Nevills look to stay perfect in dual meet action this season as both enter this weekend 7-0 in duals. Olivas has recorded four major decisions and a technical fall while Nevills has five decisions, a major decision and a fall.
Fresno State Wrestling returns to the Valley
On Nov. 17, in front of 6,840 Red Wave supporters, the third-largest dual in program history, Fresno State Wrestling returned to the Valley as the 'Dogs battled Big 10 foe Illinois at the Save Mart Center.
The 'Dogs, who fell in the dual 33-10, came out with three dual wins as 149-pounder Khristian Olivas got Fresno State on the board with a 10-2 major decision at 149 pounds over nationally-ranked Eric Barone while 157-pounder Greg Gaxiola followed it up with a 9-5 win at 157 pounds over another nationally-ranked foe in Eric Langenderfer.
The final win for the Bulldogs came at heavyweight as AJ Nevills topped Duece Rachal, 7-5 with a late takedown in the third period.
